Mel has been a singer of a big band, corporate function bands, Pink Floyd and Suzi Quatro tribute bands, rock bands, a session singer, backing vocalist, part of a duo and as Mel the Solo Singer.
Mel is still singing with bands, but more about the solo act 'Mel'. She really enjoys singing & gigging (well, she must do to sacrifice 20 years of her weekend social life). Her whole life has revolved around music and singing, and she takes great pleasure in entertaining people. Each venue she performs at has a different clientele and usually a varied audience within, so she will tailor each performance to each venue and the audiences needs, as that is what is really important.
Never working to a set list, Mel will simply gauge the gig as it progresses and choose songs to sing she feels will suit the mood at that moment. With over 600 songs in her repertoire, ranging from oldies to current tunes across just about all commercial genres, and she is constantly learning more, adding to the eclectic list. So whether a social club that requires a wide variety of popular songs to fill the dancefloor, to a pub that is more suited to alternative pop and rock covers or the care home where the song choices are all about triggering memories and feeling good, she can cater for just about all. Mel is a self-contained act, meaning she will provide her own equipment and perform. With 1K of HK amplification and the virtual band is neat and compact - thanks to the digital age (pro backing tracks). During breaks, Mel can supply background music. Higher watt amplification and stage/effect lighting is available but not standard.
All she needs is a small area to perform, 1 electricity plug point and a table. It is true, you can't beat the sound and energy of a live band, but there are many positive reasons for booking a solo act. The volume can be controlled, greater variety of material playable, takes up less space in venue, financial benefits to mention a few.
