Between the age of 18 and 22, I was becoming much noticed, and bookings for my services were starting to come far and wide. My popularity was established because my beat matching mixing skills – even before the boom of House music. I was now working up to 5 nights a week.
1991 saw the birth of one of Portsmouth’s most famous Clubs – The Paradise Club. This club started as a 500 capacity venue on both a Friday and Saturday night and ran for 13 years (until 2004). The last 6 years it became known as ‘Decadence’, with a capacity of 2000 people. For 13 years I was its main room resident, playing funky house and club anthems of its day. By now, I was Portsmouth’s most popular DJ. I was at the time, also equally just as popular in the mainstream commercial venues such as Ellie Jay’s (pre club bar, 800 capacities – Wed/Fri night 5 year residency) and Martines nightclub (wed night 2 year residency).
Most of the work I currently receive now is Weddings, birthday parties – from teenagers through all too all celebrated decades, Xmas dos, Corporate Companies and Army/Navy services.
My style of DJing has always centred on the music. I always beat mix the records to ensure it sounds smooth and uncluttered. As you walk into a venue where I am playing, you can be assured your feet will start tapping away. Never playing your favourite party club records too early and always will ensure your request will be played within the appropriate timing of the night. My style with the microphone is warm, fun and friendly and appropriately matched to the theme of the night.
My DJ set up is very much the top end of most mobile DJ’S. I use industry club standard Pioneer CDJ800 X 2, Behringer DJX700 Multi Effects mixer, an array of fantastic multi effect mirrored lighting (no smoke machine) and Mackie SRM450 Speakers x 2. On the now very rare occasions, I will also use Technics 1210 x 2 turntables
